9 Proven Ways to Keep Your Skin Hydrated All Day

When it comes to achieving and maintaining a healthy complexion, keeping your skin hydrated is key. Moisture is essential for every single process that occurs in the skin. If your skin doesn’t have enough of it, it’s not going to be able to function in the way that it should, which can then cause a number of problems.

Unfortunately, although hydrating your skin may sound easy, it usually isn’t. This is largely down to the fact that there is so much out there that’s constantly dehydrating your skin, which is why you need to remain vigilant and consistent with your hydration efforts.

So, what do you need to do to keep your skin hydrated all day? Here are nine tips from Lavelier:

1) Drink More Water

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, meaning that a large amount of its hydration comes from the water that you drink. Sadly, research shows that 62% of people admit to not drinking enough water each day. Not only is this detrimental for their skin but it also has longer-lasting consequences on overall health too.

Why don’t people drink enough water? The most common reason is that water is considered to be a ‘boring’ beverage This problem can be eliminated by making water more exciting. Try infusing it with fruits or adding in some natural flavorings to make it more enticing.

There are now also a number of water-drinking apps that not only make drinking water more fun but also serve to remind you to top up your body’s hydration levels throughout the day.

Plus, don’t forget that hydration can be eaten too! There are so many foods out there that are known for being extremely water-dense, such as watermelon, strawberries, and celery. Add more of these to your diet while also making an effort to drink more water and your skin will feel better hydrated in no time!

2) Include Plenty of Humectants in Your Skincare Routine

Hydrotherm Sauna Serum

Unfortunately, even if you drink more than the recommended amount of water each day, this on its own is likely not going to be enough to keep your skin hydrated, especially as you age. Why? Because, as we mentioned earlier, there are so many factors that are constantly dehydrating the skin from the outside.

This makes topical hydration so important, which is where humectants come in. These ingredients are famous for their moisture-binding properties. This allows them to quickly hydrate the skin, which is why the skin always looks fuller and dewier almost immediately after humectants have been applied.

There are several humectants to choose from but sodium hyaluronate, glycerin, and collagen are known for being some of the best. You’ll find all three in the Lavelier HydroTherm Sauna Serum. This serum also contains peptides and coral seaweed extract, both of which also have humectant properties. As a result, it’s wonderfully hydrating. Use it twice a day and you’ll be able to keep your skin’s hydration levels at a high.

3) Apply a Hydrating Toner After Cleansing

Marine Facial Toner

Although the skin is pretty much always at risk of losing moisture through evaporation, it becomes even more so after it has been cleansed. Why? Because cleansing disrupts skin barrier function. This affects the skin’s moisture retention abilities, causing moisture to evaporate away at a much faster rate.

To keep your skin hydrated, you’ll need to replenish this as much as possible, and a toner is the perfect way to get started. With that said, not all toners are hydrating. Some have the opposite effect, so choose the right formula.

This is where the Lavelier Marine Facial Toner shines. It has been designed specifically to hydrate the skin, with a blend of aloe vera leaf juice, coral seaweed extract, and cucumber fruit extract enabling it to do so. It also contains chamomile extract – a great ingredient for calming the feeling of irritation or inflammation after cleansing.

4) Add a Vitamin C Serum to Your Skincare Routine

Oceana VitaGlow C Sérum

Vitamin C is a skincare ingredient with an amazing reputation. It’s loved for how it smooths away the look of wrinkles, brightens the appearance, tightens the feel of the skin, and more.

However, many don’t realize that vitamin C is a hydrating ingredient too. Research shows that it helps to reduce how quickly the skin loses moisture through evaporation. The fact that it also leaves skin cells feeling able to function to their full potential means that the skin will also be able to make better use of all of the moisture that the vitamin C has helped to retain.

Of course, when vitamin C is combined with other hydrating ingredients, results are even better. This is why we chose a super-hydrating formula for the Lavelier Oceana VitaGlow C Serum. Not only does it contain two types of vitamin C but it also hydrates the skin with coral seaweed extract, jojoba oil, avocado oil, olive oil, and coconut oil.

5) Use a High-Quality, Hydrating Night Cream

Evening Repair Cream

If your skin is already dehydrated when you wake up in the morning, then you’re likely facing a losing battle for the rest of the day. Sadly, the skin is more prone to dehydration overnight. Once evening rolls around, skin permeability increases.

In some ways, this is great as it means that any skincare products you apply will be able to penetrate your skin more easily. However, at the same time, it also means that you lose more moisture to evaporation.

A rich night cream is the best way to put a stop to this. It will form a seal over the surface of your skin, preventing moisture from evaporating away. As always, look for a moisturizer that’s loaded with hydrating ingredients too. This way, in addition to preventing dehydration, it will also bump up your skin’s moisture levels.

If you don’t yet have a night cream that meets the mark, check out the Lavelier Marine Evening Repair Cream. Sodium hyaluronate, aloe vera, glycerin, and coral seaweed extract hydrate the skin while shea butter and a blend of plant oils keep that moisture trapped in.

6) Moisturize While Your Skin is Damp

Speaking of moisturizing…

As we mentioned above, one of the roles that a moisturizer plays is to create a layer over the skin’s surface to lock moisture in. This means that whatever moisture already happens to be lingering on your skin’s surface will be pushed deeper down into your skin rather than being released into the air.

If you want to give your skin some extra hydration, you can do so by ensuring that there’s even more moisture on your skin before applying your moisturizer. How? By applying your cream onto damp, rather than dry, skin. This could mean moisturizing immediately after cleansing or quickly following your final serum up with a cream. Either way, moisturizing a damp skin surface will leave your skin feeling hydrated for so much longer!

7) Start Your Day With a Hydrating Face Mask

Want your skin to feel hydrated all day long?

Try starting your day off with a hydrating face mask. While other hydrating skincare products are great, face masks usually contain a much higher concentration of ingredients. This is why they shouldn’t be used daily. However, once a week, a face mask is a great way to elevate your skin’s hydration levels. With a good mask, this extra moisture should keep your skin going for at least a few days.

Where can you find a mask that does this? Try the Coral Luminous Face & Eye Masque from Lavelier. It’s a hydrogel mask that has been soaked in an exquisitely hydrating serum that contains the likes of sodium hyaluronate, coral seaweed extract, and Irish Sea moss powder. We’ve already talked about how the first two ingredients are humectants, but the latter is also extremely hydrating. It’s full of polysaccharides, which help to seal in moisture and prevent evaporation.

8) Don’t Allow the Sun to Dehydrate Your Skin

Divine Day Defense SPF30

If you want your skin to stay hydrated all day, then you need to take measures to prevent dehydration. This means going the extra mile to protect your skin from the sun. Why? Because UV rays are notorious for dehydrating the skin. Not only do they quickly dry up any moisture that’s on your skin’s surface but they also damage your skin barrier. As you know, this will prevent your skin from locking in moisture.

As a result, sun protection should be a big part of your daily skincare routine. It needs to be applied in the morning before you leave the house, and then every two to three hours after that until the sun goes down.

Ideally, use a sunscreen that will also hydrate your skin to really raise hydration levels. The Lavelier Divine Day Defense SPF 30 is perfect for this. Not only will it hydrate your skin and shield it from the sun but it’s also brimming with antioxidants that will keep your skin feeling healthy and youthful.

9) Be Gentle When Cleansing and Exfoliating

Oceana Refining Coral Peel

As we mentioned earlier, cleansing leaves the skin temporarily more prone to moisture loss. This is when a large amount of dehydration occurs. Exfoliation does the same thing, although to an even greater extent.

We’ve already talked about how using a toner after cleansing (and exfoliating) can help to counter this. However, you should also, ideally, be using gentle cleansers and exfoliators that aren’t going to inhibit skin barrier function.

Our top choice for cleanser would be the Oceana Breezy Facial Cleanser. It’s a gentle formula that also provides a number of hydrating ingredients. Meanwhile, for exfoliation, try the Oceana Refining Coral Peel. It exfoliates with a blend of bamboo powder, walnut shell powder, and mandelic acid. At the same time, glycerin, coconut oil, and coral seaweed extract keep the skin hydrated.
